Protected by a semi-circle of spectacular towering mountains lies the Franschhoek Valley, the most beautiful in the cape winelands. Known as the food and wine capital of South Africa, international cuisine is created by some of the world’s top chefs and sensational renowned wines are grown on the valley slopes.

Dutch Reform Church Huguenot Monument Franschhoek Town Hall

Settled by the Huguenots from France over three hundred years ago the valley is steeped in history. A monument to the Huguenots dominates the main street and there is a large museum next to the monument dedicated to their memory. Many fine historical buildings remain and can be enjoyed by the visitor on a newly created walking tour of the village.

Relax in one of many shady cafes and watch the world go by. The village offers art galleries; interior design and antique shops, outstanding local hand made chocolates and of course a comprehensive selection of fine wines from local vineyards and the rest of South Africa.

Franschhoek is an ideal base for exploring the Winelands, Cape Town and the Western Cape. Many places are an easy day trip including Hermanus, Cape Agulhas; The West Coast; Worcester, Robertson; Tulbagh and the beautiful Riebeek Valley.
